On April 11 the band Walk The Moon preformed at the House of Blues Boston. Walk The Moon is a four-member band with Nicholas Petricca as the lead singer and synthesizer player, Kevin Ray as the bass guitarist, Eli Maiman as the guitarist and Sean Waugaman as the drummer. They are currently on tour for their second studio album Talking is Hard, which was released on November 28, 2014. This album consists of 12 vibrant and energetic tracks in a range of tones from serious to inspirational to carefree that all beg to be danced to. The opening song “Different Colors” is very upbeat and inspirational. It is a celebration of people and their differences as well as the power of music to bring together different people. “Shut Up and Dance” is the album’s single. It is an extremely infectious song with a chorus that you can’t escape once you hear it. It is the kind of song you find yourself listening to over and over again without getting sick of it. “Portugal”, which is probably my favorite song on the album, takes on a bit more serious tone as it speaks about the hardships of growing apart from people, but remains positive by reassuring that you never fully lose the connections you have formed with people. In addition to these songs the band sang “Down in the Dumps”, “Spend Your $$$”, “Avalanche”, “Up 2 U”, “Work This Body”, and “Aquaman” from the Talking is Hard album as well as “Tightrope”, “Shiver Shiver”, “Lisa Baby”, “Jenny”, and “I Can Lift A Car” from their first album Walk the Moon (which is equally as good, if not better). For the encore they sang an amazing cover of “All These Things That I’ve Done” by the Killers and “Anna Sun”, their single from the Walk the Moon album.

Not only does the band have amazing songs, but they are truly talented. Their concert was an explosion of colors and music and dancing that all came together in a beautiful communion. Everything from the lights to their movement around the stage was really engaging and interesting. There was never a dull moment. The band really made an effort to connect with the audience, continually giving us different hand motions to do along with the songs, telling short stories, and keeping everyone excited. At one point we were even called upon to scream out all of our negative energy and enjoy the moment. The whole vibe inside the venue was energetic and positive. It was one of those great concert atmospheres where everyone is having a good time and really committing to the experience.

If you enjoy upbeat, indie-alternative music with flares of synthesizer and funky beats, then I highly recommend checking out Walk The Moon. They are a really authentic band that has very catchy music.
