Big Hero 6 Review
November 14, 2014
Based on the Marvel comic series of the same name, Big Hero 6 is an animated comedy-adventure about the bond that forms between plus-sized healthcare robot Baymax, and child prodigy Hiro Hamada. When the city of San Fransokyo experiences a disaster, Hiro and Baymax are thrown into the middle of the action, and must team up with Hiro’s other friends, Go Go, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred to solve the mystery. This ragtag group bands together to form a team of superheroes: Big Hero 6.
The huggable robot Baymax steals the show by far. With his comedic moments sprinkled throughout the movie as he tries to care for Hiro and the gang, his presence in any scene will put a smile on your face. While the rest of the team was essential in the plan to catch the criminal, they lacked screen time. As members of Big Hero 6, it would have been nice to see a little more character development in the superhero team outside of Hiro and Baymax.
Science is not often present in Disney movies, but Big Hero 6 was full of science, as our heroes use physics and chemistry superhero gadgets for themselves. These high-tech gadgets include balls of chemicals that can be thrown at an attacker, and high-power laser gloves that can to cut through just about any material. While viewers may not be gaining an abundance of new science knowledge from the film, superheroes that use chemistry and physics to save the day might get kids more interested in science.
Big Hero 6 was a hilarious and heartwarming adventure that is entertaining for all ages. The film is balanced, with an ever-changing story, interesting characters, and action to keep things exciting. Head on to the movies and catch Big Hero 6 while it’s still in theatres.
