Back-to-school time can be very stressful for all students, especially in high school. It is hard to come back after months of fun and begin to maintain a healthy work-life balance. There are several ways you can better ease your way into school again, including the following list of tips I have created below.
1.Create a Schedule.
Creating a schedule can be a great way to keep track of homework assignments, assessments, social events, and anything else happening in your life. Creating a schedule lets you realize what you must do each day and ensure you do it.
2. Stay Organized
This tip is similar to creating a schedule. However, staying organized also includes keeping your room clean, having your notes and homework together and neat, as well as tidying up after yourself. Staying organized lets you know where everything you need is, and not rushing to the last minute to get things done.
3. Plan events to see family and friends
Connecting to people who love and support you is incredibly important for your mental health. It is important to find the right balance between school and social life, and not do too much or too little. Having fun is as important as working hard. Mischa Hase, a Junior at the high school said that she likes to hang out with her friends and family on the weekends, “School is always stressful and tiring on the weekdays, so during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I like to spend time with my friends and parents. It makes me feel happy, and a lot less stressed out.”
4. Get a good amount of sleep each night
Each night individuals should be sleeping 7-10 hours a night. Getting enough sleep allows you to focus on school and other activities you have to do. Without getting enough sleep you are not going to be able to be as productive and it will cause you to be in a worse mood. Cam Mckenna, Junior at Hingham High School states, “Getting enough sleep helps me focus in school and my hockey or lacrosse games.”
5. Eat Healthy
Eating healthy goes along the same lines as getting enough sleep. Taking care of your body during the school year is especially important, so you can do your best daily. You should eat a variety of vegetables, fruit, grains, and milk each day.
These tips should help you have a more productive school year and minimize your stress levels as much as possible.
