When fall rolls around, most people want to get out of the house before they get stuck inside for the winter and have something to do on the long weekends. Many do not know where to go or what to do, but with fall in the air, and Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner, it is better to do them now before it is too late!
Apple Picking
Apple picking is a great activity to get out of the house, but some people struggle with where to go. Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow, MA is a beautiful place to pick apples, but it is more of a drive. Located an hour away from Hingham, it offers different kinds of fruit to pick year-round. Only 45 minutes away, C.N. Smith Farm in East Bridgewater, MA is another great option because it offers not only fresh produce, but a market where people can purchase freshly made jams and treats. Lastly, Sauchuk Farm in Plympton, MA is 40 minutes away from Hingham and has a corn maze in addition to apple picking! Charlotte Passeggio, a ninth grader at HHS, goes apple picking yearly with her family friends and mentioned how, “it is really fun and gets my mind off of all the schoolwork, plus we get a ton of apples to bake sweet treats with for weeks!”
Haunted Houses
With Halloween approaching, most people feel the need to join in on the fun and go to a haunted house. If someone is a fan of gore and jump scares, Barrett’s Haunted House in Abington, Massachusetts will give them just what they are looking for and tickets are already on sale! But sometimes kids want to tag along in the fun even if they get spooked easily. If families are looking for a kid-friendly option, St. John’s (Not-So-Spooky) Haunted House in Hingham is a great option. It offers 4 dates, and tickets go on sale October 1st, and they sell out fast.
Football
With the football season just starting and it being on top of most fans’ minds, some may want to catch a local or national game in person. In Hingham, the Varsity Boys Football team has two home games left of the season, with one of those being homecoming. Samantha Jesson, another ninth grader from Hingham says, “I love going to the Hingham High School football games with friends and cheering on the Harbormen!” The game dates are online, but make sure to catch them before the season ends. If you are looking for professional football, the New England Patriots started their season so fans can catch the game on TV or buy tickets online and head down to Foxboro. If you are looking for college football, Boston College is another great option. They play out of Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill which is 40 minutes away!
