On Monday, October 21st, the Hingham Girls Field Hockey team faced off against Sandwich in an away game on the cape. The field hockey season for Hingham High School has been extremely successful, with the team winning every game except for one tie and one loss. The girls tied Cohasset one to one and lost to Sandwich in their previous home game zero to two.
The last time Hingham played Sandwich in field hockey, it was a tight game. Therefore, this time the girls were excited for a re-match. Despite their prior loss, the Hingham team had hope that they may perform better than last time. In the end, despite their good spirits, the Hingham team lost zero to three. However, the team worked together well and had an overall successful game. Junior captain Ryan Hallisey, who plays as a midfielder, commented, “Even though we did not win the game, we played really well. The last time we played Sandwich our biggest weakness was giving up defensive corners, but this time we did a much better job. I think we all communicated and played our best so in the end the loss does not really matter.”
This same optimistic spirit is seen throughout the whole team with junior Sam Ruddick adding, “yes, even though we did not win we all played really well and gave one hundred percent, and in the end that is all we can really do. Sandwich is a really strong team and I know our whole team loves playing them even when we lose.”
Overall, even though the Hingham Girls Field Hockey team did not come out on top in this game, it doesn’t take away from their success. The team still only has one loss and a total of eight goals scored against them the entire season. The girls also won the Patriot League and they only have one game left in the season. Considering their in-season success, the Hingham Field Hockey team has a good chance going into the tournament. Last year, hingham field hockey made it to the final four, so it will be interesting to see how they do this year. Good luck!
