With College Basketball starting, so does the road to March. This season of College Basketball will be exciting with one of the most well-rounded classes finally coming in. Last season’s leaving class was not incredibly significant as some of the only notable players leaving are Reed Shepard, Zach Edey, and Rob Dillingham.
March madness last year was a whirlwind with many unforgettable upsets. Some of the upsets include 11-seed NC Sate making it all the way to the final four, 14-seed Oakland scraping by 2-seed Kentucky but losing in overtime to 11-seed NC State, and 4-seed Duke beating 1-seed Houston in a thrilling game 100-95. The final four last year ended up being 1-seed UConn vs 4-seed Alabama, and 11-seed NC State vs 1-seed Purdue. UConn ended up beating Alabama in a close game for most of it, but they ended up pulling out within the last 7 minutes to win 86-72. In Purdue vs NC State game, Purdue won by 13 points in a solid team victory which put an end to NC States run. In the National Championship, the game was back and forth for the first fifteen minutes of the Game. After those fifteen minutes concluded, UConn slowly started to pull away and by the end of the first half, they were up by six points. They ended up being more dominant in the second half, even though Zach Edey scored 37 points.
This year of College Basketball looks to be very entertaining with many unique prospects coming in. Dylan Harper and Ace Baliey were the number second and third best recruits last year and both committed to Rutgers. In their exhibition game against St. John, Ace Bailey lead the team in scoring with 25 points, while Dylan Harper had the second most points with 20. Even though they lost 91-85, these two freshman showed enormous potential for this season.
After a disappointing March, The Kentucky Wildcats are a hit-or-miss team this year according to fans. After losing Reed Shepherd in the draft and losing in the first round to a 15-seed last year, the Wildcats roster looks very senior-loaded. Because of a massive senior class and a smaller freshman class, this may be their last year to be competitive within the foreseeable future. Despite this, Kentucky fans, Matthew Volpe and Will Jones are still hopeful with Matthew commenting, “I think Kentucky will be better than last year” and Will Jones saying, “I think Kentucky has a shot to win it this year.”
