At Hingham High School, students participating in football, field hockey, soccer, and girls’ volleyball are wrapping up their in-season games and heading into the playoffs. The next couple of weeks will be highly competitive as every game is single elimination!
Football resides in Division 3. They are currently number 6 in the power rankings after their 28-7 win against Silver Lake on October 25th. Their ranking is subject to change as they still have one in-season away game left on Friday, November 1st against their rivals the Duxbury Dragons. After this game, the Harbormen are likely to host a playoff game in 2 weeks.
Field hockey is in Division 2 and is ranked at number 6. Their current record is 15-2-1 after their win 5-2 against King Phillip on October 25th. Field hockey hosted its first playoff game on Friday, November 1st against Mansfield. They beat their opponents 3-1. As they made it to the final four last year, field hockey is excited to follow through and do the same this season.
Girl’s soccer is within Division 2 as well. Ranked at number 11, their record is 10-4-3. They likely will host a game on Monday, November 4th. Previously, D1 2022 State champion, members of the girls’ soccer team hope to find similar success this year. Tessa Grossman, a junior on the soccer team, describes the way she and her teammates are feeling, “We are so excited to keep the season going and the positive energy on the team.” They will play the winners of the East Longmeadow v. Putnam Vo-Tech in the Round of 32.
Boy’s soccer is in Division 2, and with an impressive 15-2 record currently ranks at number 4. Their final game resulted in a tie against the highly-ranked Boston College High School. With their only losses being to the D1 Brockton team and Pembroke, the Boy’s soccer team is likely to find a significant amount of success in this season’s playoffs. They will play the winners of the Amherst-Pelham Reg v. Nashoba Regional sometime next week.
Girl’s volleyball plays in Division 2 as well, ranked at 22. Despite their ranking, they still qualify for playoffs with a 10-8 record. Their first playoff game was Friday, November 1st, away at Whitman Hanson. Hingham was the underdogs in this game as their opponents were ranked at number 11. Despite this, Meghan Keonen, a junior on the team, stated that her team is still optimistic, “We always give our all to every game, and we plan to do the same on Friday.” The Harborwomen won this game after the 5th set and are moving on to the Round of 16.
Playoffs are an opportunity to watch fun and high-intensity games. Make sure to try to attend a few to support your fellow Harbormen!
