Boston Snowport
To experience a day filled with adventure, take a trip to Boston, Massachusetts, and go to the Seaport. The Seaport, known as the Snowport for the next month, is decorated annually for the holiday season. It offers various family-friendly activities to help get into the spirit. First up, the Snowport hosts the Holiday Market, featuring over 120 vendors from local businesses. Shoppers can buy from these artisans, get their holiday shopping done early, and then purchase food at one of the many food trucks parked inside the market. Grace Whiting, a freshman at Hingham High School, goes into the Snowport every year with her friends. Grace says, “It is a really great place to get my Christmas shopping done early and there is amazing food to grab afterwards. It is also pretty to walk around because of all the lights that are put up around the area.” The Snowport also offers a Christmas Tree Farm, having pre-cut trees on display that you can choose from, and then have delivered to your home. Lastly, the Snowport offers curling, a unique sport that you can learn, but reservations have to be made online.
Christmas in the Square
Most people living in Hingham always look forward to the annual Christmas in the Square, which will take place on Friday, December 6th this year. Christmas in the Square, hosted in downtown Hingham, includes a visit from Santa Claus at 6 pm, coming down Main Street on a firetruck, performances from artists, and the chance to walk around the square to accomplish more Christmas shopping. This is a great family activity, and kids are always counting down the days for this tradition that has been going on for over 30 years.
Boston Theater
While it may be more expensive, the Boston Theater hosts various shows that will put you in the Christmas spirit. The Boston Ballet Nutcracker tells a timely tale of a young girl who befriends a nutcracker she is gifted on Christmas Eve. It tells of how they battle the evil mouse king and their travels through Dreamland. Freshman Ellie Rogers goes into Boston every year with her family to watch the play. Ellie says, “Since I have been going for years, the Nutcracker has become a tradition for our family, and it always gets me in the Christmas spirit.” Another great show that Boston Theater hosts is A Christmas Carol, a story about a man who hates Christmas, and then realizes how much he loves it and the deeper meaning of it. If you are more musically inclined, the Boston Pops are another great option, because they perform music and always include Christmas classics throughout the show.
The holidays are an exciting time around Hingham, so go out and enjoy them!
