With holidays such as Hanukkah and Christmas rapidly approaching, there is no better time to revisit classic holiday movies as everyone finishes up the last of their work for a long winter break. The only question is, ‘What is the best holiday movie?’ While I have plenty of my own thoughts on what I think the best holiday movie of all time is, to get to the bottom of this question I decided to ask the students themselves, to find out what are the movies that are HHS favorites for the title of greatest holiday movie of all time. So, without further ado, these are, in no particular order, HHS student’s favorite holiday movies to watch this season:
- Home Alone (1990)
Home Alone is the favorite holiday movie of HHS senior Sanya Khadivi, because of, “the refreshing feeling you get from it.” She loves “how it places an emphasis on the importance of family in an unconventional way while also keeping that holiday spirit.”
- The Christmas Carol (2009)
The Christmas carol is HHS Junior Elise Ficke’s favorite holiday movie. She says “my family watches it every year, and I love the story.”
- Die Hard (1988)
Die Hard is the favorite holiday movie of HHS seniors Chris Hoppe and Zach Kenigsberg, who like the movie because of the action and great lines like “Welcome to the party pal” and “you think I’m trying to order a pizza?”
- The Year Without Santa Claus (1974)
The Year Without Santa Claus is HHS senior Joe Andrews’ favorite holiday movie, who says “the animation and plot are weird but it’s nostalgic and entertaining.”
- The Snowman (1982)
The Snowman is HHS sophomore Nora Synnott’s favorite holiday movie, who says “the music is beautiful and the movie itself is so simple yet heartwarming.”
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
The Jim Carrey How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the favorite holiday movie of HHS sophomore Michael Blackwood’s favorite, who says “I used to be really scared of it when I was young but, growing up, I overcame my fears and now it’s one of my favorites.”

- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964)
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is HHS sophomore Oisin Rowan’s favorite holiday movie, who says clearly, “I am a fan of the classics.”
- Daddy’s Home (2015)
