The HHS Business Pathway Program has been in the making for a long time and is finally here. The program held its first meeting on December 10th in which they expanded their mission, requirements to join, and structure. The program is run by three teachers: Mr. George, Mr. Tarantello, and Mr. Hoey.
Their Mission
The program’s mission is to help inspire people who want to work in business later in life. They also want to help educate students about career skills in the business world by using mentorship, business world opportunities, and coursework. Another mission of the program is to help prepare students for the business world by expanding and developing their enthusiasm and knowledge for this complex career path.
Structure and Requirements
To complete the program, there is a complex list of requirements and recommended paths for students to take.
Students are recommended to take Introduction to Business during their freshman year, as it opens your selection for business courses. The program requires you to take four business-related courses to complete the program, so students are recommended to take one class each year. After you take Introduction to Business, you can learn more about specific fields like Introduction to Financial Accounting, Digital Literacy, Business Management, and more.
Another requirement for the program is to get 10 hours of experience in the business world. In their slideshow, they included examples of internships, working experience, shadowing a salesperson, or individual studying that would be evaluated by their advisor. They hope that being in a workplace environment where people are selling things will help students pick up skills used in selling products and get familiar with a business environment.
The most frequent requirement that must be made is meeting with your advisor twice an academic year. This is done so your advisor can make sure you are on the right path and can talk about potential and present business opportunities.
All of these requirements must be formatted in an application and submitted by May 1st of the student’s senior year.
What Do Members Think of The Program?
Sophomores Martina Misdea and Dom Lieto both think positively about the program with Martina saying, “I think the program is great for students who want to major in business.”
Dom Lieto added, “After attending the meeting, I feel like this program will help me get more familiar with business topics and hopefully introduce me to new career fields.” As I attended the meeting and being a member myself, I can honestly say I am excited to continue with this program and to see what it will grow into.
