Hingham High school is a highly competitive and achieving community, with continuous academic achievements throughout the years. Hingham is consistently recognized for a strong scholarly community, due to such a highly qualified staff and a rigorous student body. However, academics is not the only thing encouraging such a positive school environment at HHS. The relentless involvement of the student body within extracurricular clubs adds to the foundation of such a successful public school.
In a town such as Hingham, students continuously feel the need to compete at high levels both academically, socially, and athletically. Although this creates such a high achieving environment, it is hard for many students to avoid the stresses and pressures of pursuing excellence.
Students Teddy Anderson (junior) and Jack Germain (junior), have recognized this issue, and have created the new and exciting “Hope Club,” to create a safe environment for students to go to relate and raise awareness to the stresses that occur in daily life, such as school, sports, or other several reasons. The “Hope Club” stands as an acronym for happiness, optimism, peace, and everyone. The club hopes to foster new customs in outwardly expressing the importance of self-care, in a space that is openly inclusive and helpful. The club wants to focus on themes of perseverance, personal growth, and community support.
Teddy Anderson, one of the two founders of the club mentioned his inspiration in starting the community through mentioning, “I think this club can be an awesome outlet for a wide range of students at the school, ranging anywhere between athletes, drama participants, band or chorus members, and any others who are interested in a community that is open to the stresses that may impact people on a day to day basis.” Jack Germain, the other founder of the club added on, “we all experience pressure and stress no matter what our goals are in life, however the important aspect is how people should deal with them. Teddy and I think our club can be an amazing way for any student to learn how to face these challenges.”
The first meeting for this club occurs this Thursday, December 19th, in room 103, for any students who may be interested in joining a new and impactful club. The club is advised by Mr. McArdle.
