Over the years, Hingham has become known as a powerhouse in boys’ hockey, and this has been further proven by the Harbormen’s glowing record and strong start this season. The Harbormen Hockey Team is defending their title as Number #1 with early success in the 2024-2025 hockey season.
To start off the season, the Harbormen welcomed some new faces to their varsity roster. Brendan McCarthy, Liam Wallace, Brett Larson, and Walter Dzavik, four strong sophomore forwards were ushered in this season. They’re joined by Nick Bigelow, an intense freshman forward. Although they are new to the varsity setting, they have all proven themselves not only as good players but as assets to the team for this season. Walter Dzavik described his start to his first varsity season, saying, “We have had a great start to our season because of the passion and bond we all share. We will continue to thrive as a team because we all work for each other.”
The teamwork amongst this team has not only made the season fun for the players and fun to watch for the fans, but it has also led them to tremendous victories. The Harbormen began their season with a 4-1 win against the Needham Rockets, and this strong victory seems to have spirited the players because Hingham has won every game since! After this successful season opener, the Harbormen went on to play some of the best teams in the state of Massachusetts, such as the St. Johns Prep Eagles, the Weymouth Wildcats, the Braintree Wamps, the Archbishop Williams Bishops, and the Marshfield Rams. The Hingham boys’ pulled out a secure win in every single game, with the closest score being 6-5 against the Bishops.
Throughout the winter, hockey provides so much spirit throughout Hingham High, it is not only a fun sport to watch but it is also a necessity to go see the Harbormen in action during their riveting games. One of the dedicated Harbormen fans, Kaylie Fabrizio, is excited for the upcoming season and stated, “I’m really proud at how well of a start the team has made. Glad to see they are still doing well even with all the seniors they lost last year.” This team truly brings the High School and its students alive during the chilly months of winter.
Congratulations to the Harbormen for their magnificent start to the 2024-2025 hockey season and good luck — bring more success to Hingham!
