As the end of the 2024-2025 NFL season comes to a dramatic finish, two seasonal powerhouses are set to face off. The Kansas City Chiefs, led by future Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes, will rematch the Philadelphia Eagles with their star-studded defense. The Chiefs have had a historic season, suffering only two losses. Similarly, the Eagles have been on a sixteen-game win streak. This game will be a rematch of the 2023 Super Bowl. The last Super Bowl matchup ended in a thirty-eight to thirty-five shootout with the Chiefs ending victorious.
Both of these teams had to play very anticipated divisional games to make the Super Bowl. The Eagles faced off against the Cinderella story Washington Commanders. The rising star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels leads this Commanders team. Daniels had looked so poised during the whole playoffs, but their team just did not have enough juice to hang with the stars of Philly. The game ended in a 55-23 demolition, and the statistic of no rookie quarterback ever winning a divisional game prevails. On the American side of the league, the Chiefs matched up against the Bills in a very anticipated matchup. These teams have faced off in the playoffs three times before this 2025 matchup. The chiefs conquered the Bills in these meetings. The game on Sunday once again was a classic high-scoring affair, and the Chiefs once again pulled away with a thirty-two to twenty-nine victory.
As the Eagles and the Chiefs move on their preparation for the Super Bowl, NFL fans across the country say they are not too interested in watching the game. Coming into the divisional games it could be said that the Washington Commanders and the Buffalo Bills were ‘America’s Teams.’ Fans, even if not affiliated with either team, were outraged watching both those teams lose in dramatic fashion. Rumors are surfacing surrounding how many will be boycotting the Super Bowl because of the ‘unexciting’ and ‘predictable’ matchup. Hingham High School junior Ben Brazis says, “I am really not thrilled to watch the upcoming Super Bowl. Part of me just wants to not watch it at all, but I definitely still will tune in because I cannot miss such a big event.” Similarly, HHS junior Decland Young thinks, “I do think that the game will be an entertaining one because of the star-studded teams, but I just wish we could have seen a more unique matchup.” As each day passes the anticipation grows leading up to the biggest sporting event of the year.
