Many students eagerly anticipate the February break, a week filled with relaxation and no school. However, the choice of destination often sparks debate. Some prefer escaping to a warm paradise to sunbathe, while others opt for a snowy retreat to enjoy winter sports and cozy fires.
The decision comes down to personal preference. Cold destinations offer unique seasonal activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and sledding, along with the picturesque beauty of fresh white snow. In contrast, warm locations provide a break from winter’s chill, offering outdoor adventures and opportunities for relaxation. The choice depends on what experiences one values most. So, if it were up to you, where would you go?
For those who favor warm destinations, escaping the winter cold is a major motivation. Freshman Jimmy Magner, who is heading to the Dominican Republic, shares, “If I had to choose, I’d go with warm because it’s been cold for so long, and it’s nice to go somewhere different.” He is not alone in his preference. His fellow freshmen friends Jack Carey, Connor Elio, and Kian Thayer agree. Additionally, junior Ava O’Hanley believes warm vacations offer more activities, which can be an advantage for those who do not ski.
On the other hand, those who choose cold vacations have a unique perspective. Junior Libby Rogers, an avid skier, expresses, “I am going to Colorado and could not be more excited! I do not mind the cold when I am doing something I love: skiing. Yes, it is cold, but winter vacations offer so much, and I would rather ski while I can before the season ends.” This sentiment is shared by junior Owen Leary, who adds, “I like cold vacations because I can ski in amazing conditions!” For some, winter trips provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences, as senior Delaney O’Horo, who is traveling to Switzerland, explains, “I have never been to Europe to ski, and I cannot wait. I would not pass up this opportunity for anything. I enjoy warm vacations too, but winter is the only time I can have this kind of adventure.”
In the end, whether warm or cold, any vacation and time off from school is a win. As junior Sam Ruddick puts it, “I am simply happy to be going on vacation and having time to relax. February break is my favorite, and I have been on both warm and cold vacations!”
So, what would you choose?
