The popular Dance Marathon organization is a student-led philanthropic movement which raises funds for Children Miracle Network hospitals. With the help of advisors from Boston Children’s Hospital and fundraising advisors from the organization itself, Hingham has opened a chapter of its own!
The Hingham Chapter is going to utilize peer to peer fundraising to help raise money for Boston’s Children’s Hospital throughout the year. However, along with the peer-to-peer fundraising there will also be a main fundraising event. Although Hingham’s Chapter of Dance Marathon has not solidified their main event, president Finley Erick explained, “There are a lot of options for fundraising, and the advisors from the organization are working really hard with us to plan an event that would bring in as much fundraising as possible for our chapter. Taking inspiration from other dance marathon chapters we have narrowed it down to possibly either a 5L or Lock In. I am really excited about this because not only are we doing it for a real cause, but we also get to do it with peers.”
The money raised from this chapter at Hingham High School will specifically go to not only help the hospital as a whole but also parents and individual families doing everything they can to help their child. The committee for Hingham’s Chapter of Dance Marathon is hoping that their peers will rise to the occasion and help them fundraise and make an impact on their local hospital. Social Media manager, Kaitlyn Manning explains, “We are working our hardest to get the word of this not for profit out and to start fundraising as soon as possible so that we can raise the maximum amount of money possible for Boston Children’s Hospital. We have created an instagram and hope to start becoming active very soon! We hope that Hingham High school students will become as excited about this chapter as we are.”
This Chapter holds the potential to be very influential if enough participation is gathered from students. Therefore, if you get the chance to spread the word of this new chapter Hingham’s Dance Marathon committee would be very grateful. Additionally, the committee is almost done creating the official fundraising link which will be posted on the instagram as soon as possible. I personally support this non-profit and can’t wait for the peer to peer fundraising to open, so I can contribute!
