This past Sunday, at the TD Garden in Boston, The Harborwomen of Hingham sought to do something they haven’t done in over a decade: win a state championship.
After beating HPNA the weekend prior, they were coming into the Garden with an incredible record of 23-1-1, with their only loss being against St. Mary’s in their final game of the regular season.
When the girls departed from Pilgrim Arena at around 8 o’clock to make their way to the Garden, they were greeted by a wave of support from fans to cheer them on before their 11 o’clock game.
Their opponent would be the 15 seed Bishop Stang, who had had an incredible Cinderella story as they took down the number 2 seed NDA in the early rounds.
As warm-ups began, the Red Army packed in to create a sea of red so as to give the girls extra support.

After the game started, the Harborwomen pushed the puck around the Bishop Stang goaltender for the first five minutes. However, the girls tripped up a Bishop Stang defender in a very physical start to the game and Bishop Stang took advantage of that to get a 1-0 lead. For the middle of the period, the Harborwomen continued to play aggressively and kept putting incredible amounts of pressure on Bishop Stang. Finally, nearing the end of the period, Sophomore Hannah Lasch collected her own rebound to make the game 1-1 going into the second. After the game, Sophomore Andrew Nimboorkar, who was in the Red Army, was asked about the reaction of the Red Army after the Lasch goal, and said, “It was one of the loudest sounds I have ever heard. The crowd erupted, and it was insane to see all the Red in one space.”

The second period began with a banger, as Captain Caroline Doherty scored her first of three goals of the game within the first two minutes of the period. Not long after, Doherty scored her second of the period, making the game three-to- one thanks to the team’s continued, intense pressure. After Doherty’s goals, the game became back-and-forth, with pressure coming from both sides despite Hingham’s aggressive play style along the boards. The period ended 3-1.
As the third period went underway, the Harborwomen sustained their lead and kept the puck in the neutral zone to try to waste time. About midway through the period, Caroline made history as she completed her hat-trick and became one of the few to do so in the State Championship. As time wound down, Captain Addy Garrity sealed the game with her own goal to make it 5-1. With around a minute left in regulation, Bishop Stang got one past the Harborwomen to make the final score 5-2 in favor of Hingham, which made the Harborwomen State Champions. After the game, Senior Captain Helen Concannon was asked about her season and responded with, “It was an amazing way to end my Hockey career. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”
