Mrs. Flanagan, beloved chemistry teacher and robotics coach here at Hingham High School, will be retiring. Mrs. Flanagan’s journey post high school education is one to be acknowledged, as she has served 30 long years here at the high school and plans to move on soon.
A former student of Mrs. Flanagan’s, Tag Tomlinson, recounts fond memories of her class and factors that made Mrs. Flanagan special. “Mrs. Flanagan had a very diverse teaching style that fits with many different kinds of students. It was easy to learn and I never really struggled in the class. She always offered extra help to those who needed it. The energy of her class was very fun and her classroom was always welcoming.”
Some aspects of Mrs. Flanagan’s job that will be dearly missed are her colleagues and her students making it fun to come to work. Her husband’s retirement is a contributing factor to her own, as she plans on spending more time with her family post retirement. In addition to having more time at home, Mrs. Flanagan plans on traveling with much more free time on her hands!
With her retirement coming up soon in June of this year, Mrs. Flanagan dreads saying goodbye to her fellow colleagues and students but is quite excited to move on to another chapter of her life. She has made many significant contributions to our high school community and deserves much recognition.
Another former student of Mrs. Flanagan’s, Zoe Schulze, reflects on aspects that made Mrs. Flanagan such a unique and positive teacher. “She was a very friendly teacher and I always felt comfortable going to her with any help I needed. She was very good about adapting to a variety of students’ learning styles and for me specifically it was helpful when she would provide examples of hands-on activities to help us learn better.”
Mrs. Flanagan has also mentioned how she will continue to help out on the robotics team post retirement. Her contributions to the robotics team as a coach have been tremendous and she is only spoken about positively in and outside of the classroom.
