On Wednesday, September 9, 2025, the Hingham High School Girls’ Field Hockey team took on the Marshfield Rams at Marshfield High School. The Harborwomen really got to show their skills, winning 9-0. Along with that, both JV A and JV B Hingham Field Hockey teams also beat Marshfield.
The first goal of the game was scored on a corner by number 2, senior captain Ella O’neill, and assisted by another senior captain, Emily Kiernan, number 3. The next 2 goals were also scored on the corner, and these goals were scored by Ella O’neill again, and the third goal was by number 15, senior captain Sam Ruddick. The 4th goal of the match was tipped in by Emily Kiernan and assisted by number 10, another senior captain, Ryan Hallisey. The 5th goal of the night was scored differently than all the others; it was scored off a stroke. This is a penalty hit, and number 16, the final senior captain, had the honor of taking this hit. She lifted it into the net and put the score at 5 to nothing. This stroke occurred because a player on the opposing team blocked a goal with her foot behind the goalie, which is one of the causes of a stroke.
The rest of the game continued the same way it had started, with Hingham continuing to score and Marshfield trying to defend their killer offense! The next goal was tipped in by Emily Kiernan once again and assisted by Sam Ruddick. The last 3 goals of the game were all scored on offensive corners. The first goal was scored by number 9, sophomore Libby Baxter; the next was scored by senior Olivia Nolan, and the last goal of the game was scored by Ariana Sood, senior number 13.
At the end of the game, the girls were ecstatic with the outcome of the gam, and this is evident when Sam Ruddick says, “I am so happy that we won! We have had such a great start to our season, and I hope we can keep our winning streak going!” Another player who was extremely happy after the game was Sam McCabe, “I am so happy that the team works together so well and proud of everyone for playing so well today.”
The girls made it to the final four last year, and hopefully, they can do that again. The best of luck to the Harborwomen field hockey team this fall!
