On Friday, September 12th, girls volleyball went up against Milton High School in a close battle.
Before the tough game, senior captain Olivia Carleton expressed what the team needed to do to win this game. “After a tough start to the season, we are looking for a win today. We still have a long way to go and there have definitely been some ups and downs through the last few games. We are going to be aggressive especially considering we are playing a team that we haven’t played in recent years. It is going to be exciting but also nerve wracking to play this team because we don’t know exactly what to expect.”
Despite Hingham putting forth a determined effort on Friday night, they ultimately came up short in an aggressive battle against Milton. The game was close in the end, with Milton winning 3 sets and Hingham winning 2.
Being the first meeting between Hingham and Milton in years, there was a layer of unpredictability added to the game, potentially stirring up some different thoughts and emotions heading into the game. Several rallies and strong defense from Hingham were crucial but Milton’s consistency ultimately won the battle.
Senior captain Zoe Schulze recounted thoughts and feedback from the game, stating, “It was a great game even though we came out on the other side with a loss. I think I had great defense which saved my team a few times against #4 and #15 on the other side. Milton had a few strong hitters but we kept up and dug down. Lack of communication on free balls can sometimes get my team in a pickle so that’s always something we work on in practice as well as bettering the third ball.”
Despite coming up short and continuing a rough patch, the Harborwomen keep their heads up and look forward to both maximizing their strengths and improving weaker areas. With new members to the team, Hingham needs to learn how to work together with new players and find their groove for upcoming matches, which they continue to work on daily in practice.
