October 2nd marks the 30th Anniversary of Oasis’ legendary eighteen-time platinum album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. Although their 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe put them on the map, the follow up in 1995 titled (What’s the Story) Morning Glory brought them to superstardom across the world, not just in their native U.K.
From this album came their three greatest hits, “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, “Champagne Supernova”, and “Wonderwall”. “Wonderwall” has almost two and a half billion streams on Spotify, and collectively these three songs have over 4 billion plays. “I like it [their music] because of the upbeat tune and positive vibes,” says sophomore Will Monti. Many fans would agree with his opinion.
In the U.K, Oasis racked up 22 top ten hits, 5 of which came from (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. “Wonderwall” also peaked at No.8 on the U.S. charts. Along with celebrating this incredible milestone, Oasis is currently on tour for the first time in about fifteen years.
The two brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher, are the main members of the band, but were on bad terms for most of their careers and ended up going their separate ways. However, the band reunited for the “Live 25” tour, which was announced in August of 2024. “I’m really happy that they reunited. They’re very musically talented,” says junior Casey Salerno. The first date of the tour was July 4th in Cardiff, Wales. It has been described by both fans and critics as “biblical.”
In August, my brother, dad, and I went to one of the few North American dates in Toronto. It was indeed biblical. They played a long set of their most popular songs and a few deeper cuts, many of which came from (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. Although the concert was in Toronto, many of the fans were British, which goes to show how much of an impact they’ve had on their home country. Fans were decked out from head to toe in Oasis merchandise and bucket hats, a staple of the Oasis style. Although Liam and Noel have their differences, they didn’t “look back in anger” and were able to celebrate the anniversary of their bestselling album together.
