The 2025-26 NFL season has brought an exciting and competitive MVP race, with multiple standout quarterbacks battling for the throne. Early season performances have shown the veteran QBs continuing to dominate and maintain their elite play, although the rise of younger quarterbacks and their standout performance are making a major impact on the game. Team dynamics, as well as leadership, efficiency, and other stats are expected to play crucial roles in determining the NFL MVP as the season continues to go on. Multiple sports analysts, including Niqko Marshall, have Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the frontrunner, although Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles and young quarterback from the Los Angeles Chargers, Justin Herbert, are putting on an impressive clinic so far. There are still twelve games to be played, and the MVP conversation can drastically change throughout the season. There are favorites, who hold qualities of leadership and generational talent, but every week things can change.
Students at Hingham High school have similar opinions on the NFL MVP conversation. Senior and Hingham Football athlete Henry Sellers mentions, “I think the 2025 MVP could go to anyone. There is so much young talent in this league, and offensive studs like Mahomes (quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs) and Danny (quarterback Daniel Jones of the New Indianapolis Colts) continue to lead their team to dominance. But I’m sure that Mahomes will get it. ” Therefore, I asked Henry Sellers if he was aware that the Kansas City Chiefs are 2-2, meanwhile the other quarterbacks in the conversation have led their team to perfect records, or just one less, to which he replied: “That definitely changes my mind. In order to win the MVP, the player must show leadership and be victorious.”
In addition, I decided to continue discovering HHS students’ thoughts, so I asked football superfan, Junior Paddy Nugent. Paddy had a strong opinion, and claimed “I believe Lamar Jackson will win the MVP. I know Josh Allen and Herbert get all of the hype, but Lamar is a dual threat QB that is the league’s biggest problem. He leads the league in quarterback rating, and is second in passing touchdowns.” Again, I proposed a follow-up question regarding the Baltimore Ravens 1-3 record, to which he replied: “Wow, that changes everything. I didn’t realize the Ravens were doing this poorly, that definitely lowers Lamar’s MVP chances.”
Overall, the NFL MVP conversation is clearly an interesting topic to many Hingham High School students. However, students seem to not be completely aware of everything that adds to the NFL MVP award. The player must be a leader, who possesses qualities regarding efficiency, talent, and a good surrounding team. It will be interesting to see who wins the NFL MVP, and which players fold, versus those who continue to dominate!
