2. Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin Patches are a popular fall activity that involves choosing and purchasing pumpkins at a farm. Pumpkins can then be used to carve, decorate, or even eat! Right in Hingham, Second Parish Pumpkin Patch offers many pumpkins to choose from during weekends in the fall. If you are looking for a full-day activity, Sauchuk’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch in Plympton, MA, has pumpkins along with carnival rides, a corn maze, hayrides, food options, and much more! Lila Johnson, a senior at Hingham High School said, “Going to the Second Parish Pumpkin patch was a fun event that I stopped by with my friends! Afterward, we carved and decorated our pumpkins, which was also a fun bonding experience.”
3. Attend Local Fall Sports Games
Hingham is home to many successful high school sports teams. The fall sports list includes Girls and Boys Soccer, Girls Field Hockey, Girls and Boys Crew, Boys Football, Girls Volleyball, Girls and Boys Cross Country, and Unified Basketball. Ava Papone, a senior at Hingham High School, states, “Supporting sports teams is something I love to do! I am a part of the Unified basketball team, and I always encourage our team to go watch the other fall sports at Hingham High School, as it is a great entertainment and way to support my community.” All of these games are a fun event for all ages, and are local in Hingham!
4. Nature Walk
A nature walk is an active way to enjoy the weather and foliage that fall brings in New England. Hingham offers many areas to enjoy the landscape, such as Wompatuck State Park, World’s End Reservation, Bare Cove Park, and Weir River Farm. These popular destinations offer paved and unpaved paths to woodland trails and coastal scenery.
5. Attend a Fall Festival
Fall festivals offer a unique sensory experience with seasonal foods and activities not available year-round. There are many opportunities throughout the fall to attend different themed ones, ranging from harvest festivals to Halloween festivals. One local festival is the Canton Pumpkin Fest from October 17th to October 27th. This festival has carnival rides, games, food, and so much more. Another fun Halloween-themed festival is the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular from September 26th to November 2nd. This event has thousands of carved and decorated pumpkins on display along with fun lights, music, and delicious food. Located at the Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island, it is a little under an hour from Hingham, Massachusetts.
