In a homecoming game for head coach Mike Vrabel, as the Patriots prove themselves triumphant in a week seven matchup against his former team, the Tennessee Titans. The Patriots continue their hot start, improving their record to a more than respectable 5-2 after the 31-13 win in Tennessee. Vrabel is proving himself under his new position, and is pleasing New Englanders week in and day out.
The two quarterbacks of the day are exciting and young, up and coming talents of the future. Drake Maye, having an MVP caliber season thus far, achieved the all time Patriots completion percentage record at 90%, even putting himself above the “GOAT” of football, Tom Brady. In this contest, Maye threw for 222 yards as well as 2 touchdowns, followed by 62 rushing yards. Maye is inspiring the younger generation of New England, including Hingham High School’s own Benji Izmirlic and Sean Burke. Izmirlic remarked when asked about the young Patriots star, “Watching the Patriots this season has been the most fun I’ve had watching this team since the good old days. Drake Maye is one of the best second year quarterbacks I’ve ever seen and he and this team get me excited to watch Patriots football on Sundays again.” Benji’s words clearly embody the excitement that the average New Englander has for Maye. Sean Burke stated a similar message, saying, “Drake Maye is the next great one.” Although in fewer words, Burke still gets the message across that Drake Maye is a generational talent.
Other than the two quarterbacks, Rhamondre Stevenson had a great week for New England, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown, proving himself to be the clear running back one for the Patriots, despite rising rookie talent in TreVeyon Henderson. On the Titans end of the ball, wide receiver Chimere Dike had a standout game, racking up 70 yards and a touchdown. However, the real gamechanger was the Patriots defense. After a shaky first half, they allowed zero second half points, recorded an interception, and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
Without a doubt, Drake Maye and the Patriots seem to be the team of the future. With their young core and promising potential, they are sure to be a juggernaut over the next decade.
