The Hingham High School Girls Soccer team played in its annual game to support Maddie’s Promise Foundation on Saturday, October 18, wearing their iconic purple jerseys. The organization was founded after the heartbreaking passing of eleven-year-old Maddie McCoy due to Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer. Maddie’s Promise raises awareness and urgency to advance research on rare childhood cancers and funds treatments for Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Forward Lila Johnson commented, “This event is a great way to get the community involved. The Maddie’s Promise Foundation is super meaningful for the seniors because we all grew up playing soccer with Maddie, and this game is an amazing way to be able to support the foundation and honor her through something we all have a shared love for.” The Hingham Girls Soccer program has been supporting the Maddie’s Promise Foundation since its founding in 2019 and will continue to do so in the future.
On Saturday, October 18th, HHS Girls Soccer faced the Wildcats of Milton High School, setting up an intense, aggressive game. In the first few minutes, the game was very evenly matched with a couple of shots on goal from each team. About halfway through the game, senior Sydney Bowyer scored the first goal, giving Hingham a 1-0 lead. Bowyer, number 22, had an outstanding match, standing out in her center-back role and one of the three scorers in Saturday’s game. The competition was fierce, with many injury time-outs.
Spectator Ella O’Neill was highly invested in the game when she remarked, “The team has gotten better and better as the season goes on, and watching their games is one of my favorite activities during the week. I can’t wait to keep watching their success during the tournament, as I bet they will go far!” Not long after Bowyer’s goal, freshman Zoe Jones and sophomore Rachel Oliwa scored the next two, defeating Milton 3-0.
Hingham Girls Soccer has been climbing up the ranking significantly as the season has progressed. In the first published MIAA Division 2 rankings, the girls were placed in 7th. The most recent ranking pushed the team up to 3rd, setting up a perfect start to the tournament. After their win against Marshfield on October 21, 2025, their official record is 11-2-2.
