This year’s MLB playoffs has been filled with intense games since the end of September! Hingham High School junior Matthew Statton says that “The MLB postseason is always an exciting time of the year, where the games get more important and everything is on the line.” In October, every game gets more competitive as teams fight to stay alive.
To begin, the Seattle Mariners defeated the higher seed Detroit Tigers in a five game series to move on to the ALCS (American League Championship Series). Unfortunately for Mariners fans, their season ended there as they lost to the Blue Jays in a seven game series. The Blue Jays had previously beaten the New York Yankees, a notoriously difficult team to play. The Blue Jays have a fantastic record of 94 wins and 68 losses, situating them nicely for a strong postseason run looking for a World Series win.
In the west, the Dodgers have rolled every team that they have played. They first faced the Cincinnati Reds, beating them 2-0 in the Wild Card series. The Dodgers then moved on to face the Phillies, who have been playing some really good baseball all season. LA beat them 3-1 in the National League Divisional series to move on to the NLCS (National League Championship Series) where they swept the Milwaukee Brewers in a 4-0 series. The Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS to move on to play the Dodgers in the NLCS. The LA Dodgers swept the Brewers who ended the regular season with 97 wins, the best record in the MLB.

The Toronto Blue Jays have won every series so far to be in a position to win the World Series. The LA Dodgers, on the other hand, were the 3 seed coming into the postseason and have held up strong against their opponents thus far. HHS junior Sebby Arata says that “The Dodgers are the best team in baseball and I think that they will repeat as World Series Champions.” The Dodgers won the World Series last year putting them as the favorites to win against the Toronto Blue Jays in this year’s World Series.
