Halloween is filled with fun and joy for all ages and there are many fun activities that people partake in during this time. Although dressing up may not be fun for everyone, there is something for everyone these holidays.
The biggest tradition of all is Trick or Treating. Although this activity may be for a younger crowd, it is filled with joy. Trick or Treating is when kids walk around town in their fun costumes, knocking on doors saying “Trick Or Treat!” In return the children receive candy or snacks. Throughout the night they continue to go from house to house receiving an abundance of junk food. Amelia Greisner said “Halloween was my favorite holiday when I was younger because of all the candy I got when I went Trick Or Treating, and I loved dressing up and showing off my costume.” Trick or Treating is such a fun activity for the younger kids and it has continued since the early 1900’s.
Another fun activity that is for all ages is pumpkin carving. Pumpkins are ready to harvest in the fall which is perfect for pumpkin carving. Irish and Scottish people brought this tradition to America in the 1800s. They began by carving root vegetables to turn into lanterns and now we carve pumpkins to create jack o’lanterns. Many people take off the top of the pumpkin, scrape out the seeds, and then carve a face on the front of the pumpkin. They are then put out on the front step with a candle in it for everyone to see. Brenna Doherty carved a pumpkin this year and was very excited about it,”I carved my pumpkin a few days ago and I am so excited for all the Trick Or Treaters to see it. I carved a smile with two triangles for the eyes!”
One last halloween and fall tradition is baking things with pumpkins. Many people roast pumpkin seeds with many different types of seasoning. Another pumpkin baked good that is frequently made during the fall is pumpkin bread. Pumpkin bread, which is a quick bread that tastes like pumpkin and cinnamon. Pumpkin bread is usually made in the fall, especially near halloween.
Overall, Halloween is a joyous holiday with lots of fun for everyone! There are so many fun activities for many to partake in making this fall holiday special for everyone.
