As the holiday season rolls around, people find themselves plopping down on the couch in front of the fireplace, looking for a movie to watch. Here are five movie recommendations for all different situations.
#1: Babysitting Little Kids

Christmas Chronicles is a great movie to watch with kids! The nonstop action, rides on Santa’s sleigh, and themes of family make it an amazing choice for watching TV when babysitting. This movie includes relatable characters like Teddy, a Scrooge-like teenager, and Kate, his festive sister. They embark on an adventure in Chicago, trying to wrangle the reindeers, find the presents, and fix the sleigh. Including Kurt Russell and Darby Camp, this movie brings laughs and entertainment for little ones.
#2: Family Night
A true classic. Home Alone has entertained people for generations, which is probably why it is watched by families annually. It explores the importance of family and acceptance through the story of Kevin McCallister, a kid forced to protect his home from burglars during winter break. Kevin’s hijinks cause laughter and amusement as he traps, tricks, and schemes against the two inept robbers. Home Alone also brings a famous Christmas quote, “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!”
#3: Throwback Thursday 
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a classic holiday comedy following the story of Clark Griswold as he navigates hosting for the holidays. Made in 1989, this movie is a true throwback. Parents, grandparents, and children all love to watch the wacky events that take place at the Griswold’s house. Freshman Celia Tower says, “It is my family’s favorite movie and we all watch it together during the Christmas season!”proving its generational appeal.
#4: Need a Good Laugh
Any movie including Will Ferrell is a comedic masterpiece, but Elf shines through as one of his most creative roles. Ferrell plays Buddy the Elf, a human who lived in Santa’s workshop for most of his life, as he tries to find his father in the big New York City. Buddy’s antics amuse people all around the world during the holiday season. Viewers can’t help but feel for Buddy as he explores romance, the real world, and family life.
#5: Date Night

This opposites attract story is a great option for a cozy night in. Similar to The Princess Switch, which sophomore Leonie Eigenmann says is “the best Christmas movie ever,” A Christmas Prince offers laughs, funny characters, and an amazing plotline. An American journalist, Amber, going off to interview a European prince also provides some impressive scenery of castles in Romania. Mistakenly called the prince’s tutor, Amber stays with the prince, Richard, and finds out that he isn’t what she thinks. The plot, characters, and setting will keep you on the edge of your seat as Amber goes undercover and tries not to get exposed for who she really is.
