Hingham Girls’ basketball had its first win of the season on Friday, 12/14, against Middleborough. The game started strong, and the two teams head-to-head battled for the win. By the end of the first quarter, after a slow start, Hingham was up 9 to 8, hoping to close the gap in the following quarters and secure the win.
By halftime, Hingham was winning 17-13. In the 3rd quarter, the girls were on fire, closing it up to 37 to 18. The team just continued to gain momentum from there, where they ended the fourth quarter winning 43 to 19. The crowd cheered, and the girls celebrated as the last moments closed out and the buzzer went off.
Two highlight and star players included junior Kate McBride, who ended the game with 17 points, dominating on the court. Another star player was junior captain Eileen Lowther, who had 13 pts, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocks, playing an amazing game.
The girls were very strong on defense and impressively only kept Middleborough to 19 points as Hingham climbed their way up the scoreboard. In contrast to the past two seasons, the girls have kick-started with a promising and aggressive game, which will hopefully give way to a successful season of wins!
After a slow start last year, the girls are looking promising and strong on the court. This game was the first time Hingham Girls Basketball had won their first game in 3 years, marking the start of a strong season.
Ellie Rogers, a sophomore at Hingham High School, states that, “I thought it was a very good game, and the team is looking strong this year with many experienced players and some new young talent! Hingham had a great win, and I’m excited for the rest of their season!”
This season has taken a positive turn, differing from the previous few years. If the girls keep up their aggressive playing and dedication to the game, the coming season will prove to be promising and exciting.
Amelie Byrne, a sophomore at Hingham High School, has heard that, “I’ve heard the team is really strong this year and I’m excited to go watch a game!” As the girls’ basketball team wins, hopefully, more and more students will show up in support.
The next game is away on Tuesday, December 16th, and everyone is looking forward to seeing the turnout. Those interested in looking at the schedule in order to attend a game can find it on Arbiter, where there are all the upcoming games until the playoffs begin!
