Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was arrested on the night of December 10th. Police arrived at Moore’s house shortly after he was unexpectedly fired from his coaching job at the University of Michigan. Moore was detained by the police and was brought into Michigan County Jail for further procedure.
Who is Sherrone Moore?
Moore started coaching at the University of Michigan as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. After leading them to a National Championship as the offensive coordinator, and previous head coach John Harbaugh leaving the program, Moore was named the head coach. Throughout his two seasons, Michigan did see a drop off from the success they had previously, but Sherrone Moore had three amazing recruiting classes.
His 2024 class was ranked 19th overall, with many 3 and 4-star recruits. In 2025, his class was ranked 8th overall, including two of the nation’s best players, Bryce Underwood and Andrew Babalola. Underwood was the number one-ranked recruit in the country, and Babalola was the 10th ranked in the country. Moore also played a role in the 2026 recruiting class before he was fired, bringing in two more 5-star recruits.
When asked about the situation, student Oliver Sandifer said, “I think it is crazy that a coach with so much ahead of him would throw it all away, the way that he did.”

Moore has been charged with a series of crimes, including home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. These charges came shortly after his firing from his position at the University of Michigan.

The charges that he accumulated have a deep backstory behind them. The reason Moore was fired from his coaching job was because of a workplace relationship with a female football staffer at Michigan. The relationship between the two was against policy, leading to Moore’s immediate termination.

Shortly after his firing, Moore broke into the female football staffer’s house and threatened to end his own life. It came out that the woman had ended the relationship two days prior to the firing, but Moore sent numerous texts and calls, leading the woman to come forward to the University of Michigan. The woman’s lawyer noted that he was on the phone with her when Moore broke into the apartment. Police quickly responded, and Moore was apprehended.
What does the future look like?
On December 12th, Moore was released on a $25,000 dollar bond. As of right now, Moore is scheduled to go to court in mid to late January to have his crimes assessed. As for sentencing, first-degree home invasion is a 20-year felony and stalking adds severity to the crime. Moore could be facing well over 20 years in prison if he is convicted of all of the charges. There is also a possibility that Michigan could lose commits due to the termination of Sherrone Moore.
When asked about the future of Michigan football recruits, student Hudson Trezza said, “I think it depends on who replaces Moore as the next head coach, and if the coordinators decide to stay with the program. If Michigan brings in a good head coach, I think the top recruits will stay.”
