Books are frequently turned into movies if the book ends up being popular. Recently two different books were turned into movies. Frieda McFadden’s The Housemaid and Emily Henry’s The People We Meet on Vacation were recently adapted into films. 

The Housemaid book was originally published on April 21, 2022.  The movie was then published on December 19, 2025. This is a psychological thriller about a young woman with a rough background coming across the job as a live-in housemaid. She does not expect to get the job, yet she does. She then discovers different scary things about the family and her job goes extremely differently than expected when she discovers the truth of the family.

The housemaid’s name is Millie and is played by Sydney Sweeney. The woman she works for is named Nina Winchester and her husband is Andrew Winchester and they are played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. Enzo is the grounds keeper whose role becomes more important towards the end of the book and movie, and he is played by Michele Morrone. There are some differences between the book and movie, but overall the movie and book were loved by many who watched and read them. 

Maggie O’Neill loved the movie and said, “ I have already watched the movie in theaters twice. It was so good, I have not read the book yet but now I want to!” 

Another movie that was recently created from a book was The People We Meet on Vacation. The book version was published on May 11, 2021, and the movie version was released on January 9, 2026 immediately on Netflix. This story is about two best friends who make a promise to meet up every summer and go on vacation together. They then have one disastrous vacation to Croatia and their tradition stops after that. Two years later, they decide to go on another trip for one of their little brothers’ weddings in Spain and they do not know whether they are friends anymore. The best friends’ names are Poppy and Alex who are played by Emily Bader and Tom Blyth. There are many other characters with smaller roles throughout the movie and book. Although many loved the movie, people seem to prefer the book.

Emily Kiernan says “I read the book and watched the movie and although the movie was good, I still think the book was better.”

Both of these books and movies were loved and people continue to turn books into movies!
