It is undeniable that over the last few years, artificial intelligence has become increasingly popular throughout the world. The technology undoubtedly has plenty of benefits and positives that come with its growth, but on the other hand, there are severe downsides to AI.
A prominent example of a negative impact of artificial intelligence is the takeover of certain jobs. As AI has developed, business owners have found that it is cheaper and more efficient to use AI for jobs that humans previously worked. For the business owner, this is amazing; however, for the previous employees, not so much.
Artificial intelligence has taken over various jobs in the last few years. Here are some examples:
Customer Service Representatives:
Artificial intelligence has been rapidly replacing humans as customer service representatives. This is happening because the job is relatively simple, and most of the questions are very repetitive. The typical questions include shipping questions, password resets, and refunds. Artificial intelligence is able to answer these questions and handle the problems instantly, giving it an edge over humans who would take longer to respond. Most importantly, these AI chatbots don’t need to be paid or require rest like humans do; they are able to respond 24/7.
Graphic Design:
The industry of graphic design has become overrun by artificial intelligence, which can generate custom logos, thumbnails, posters, or images in only a few seconds. Instead of paying a designer for a logo or a certain design for their business, managers have started to choose to use artificial intelligence to generate what they need. Although AI is able to create good designs, it isn’t quite able to create very complex and specific designs yet. Those designs require more communication between the customer and designer. When asked about his thoughts on generative images, student Nathan Morris said, “I think it is insane that you can type in a few words and within seconds, AI can generate a picture.”
Paralegals:
Artificial intelligence is even changing the way that court cases are being processed. Specifically AI has the capability to do the jobs of paralegals. Paralegals are people who work in law firms as support for attorneys. Artificial intelligence is able to do almost exactly what paralegals can do in less time by scanning huge documents for important information. Of course, there is still a need for paralegals, but the amount is diminishing.
In conclusion, artificial intelligence is taking over large parts of certain jobs and incorporating itself into various types of jobs. When asked about the future of artificial intelligence, student Sebby Arata said, “I am very curious to see what the future holds, and I am interested to see how AI will continue to be incorporated into more jobs.”
