Sophomore Grace Whiting has been a gymnast for most of her life, beginning her gymnastic journey at the age of 4 years old. Her parents had enrolled her in classes, and from there she grew a true passion for gymnastics.
Just a few weeks ago, Grace broke the Patriot League record for getting the highest score Hingham has seen on the beam. Grace’s best event is the bar, but she continues to prove her skill in other events. Grace received a 9.5, which was an inspirational milestone for high school gymnasts. Grace continues to push her fellow teammates to strive for the best while being a positive light that clearly shines throughout.
When asked about a memorable moment in her gymnastics career, Grace mentioned, “I’ll never forget winning the patriot league championship with my team freshman year. It was the first time in program history that the team won first place. It was such a great moment that I’ll remember forever.
Grace has learned many lessons throughout her gymnastic journey that she holds dear to her. Specifically, she notes the discipline she has learned: “This skill definitely helps me both within and out of the sport. I feel like doing gymnastics, as you have to be disciplined because it is such a mentally and physically draining sport. By putting in the work and hours and creating discipline for yourself, it definitely pays off.”
Grace is an inspiration to many in gymnastics. When asked about one piece of advice she would give to another gymnast, she explained that, “It’s easy to get self-conscious, critical, and down on yourself within the sport, but it’s more about having fun doing exciting flips and tricks with friends.”
Some of her closest friends have been at her meets supporting her as she climbs to reach new heights. Sophomore Maya Hobson says, “Words cannot describe how proud I am of Grace. She is truly so inspiring to us all. Her dedication and time she puts into the sport are unmatched and are more than deserving of this recognition and award. Thank you for being my role model.” Grace is a friend to many and continues to shine her radiant energy on others.
