On Monday night, March 2, the Global Citizenship Program (GCP) held its first ever Dumplingfest here at the high school. For this event, teams of three created pillow-filled food from all different cultures. At Dumplingfest, there were so many different and delicious foods from so many different cultures! All students and families were welcome to attend the dumpling fest and try all of the different foods that students made!
10 different teams participated and they all made different types of dumplings. “Din Tai Fung Lovers” was one team that made Chocolate xiao long bao, which are chocolate filled dumplings. They recreated the famous desert from the restaurant Din Tai Fung.
The second team that participated was “Team Mella,” who made chocolate lava cake. These two teams were the only ones who made desert dumplings.
The third group was the “Steam Dream Team,” who made pork dumplings. Another group was “The Trio” who made Shish Barak, which are middle eastern meat dumplings that have a greek yogurt sauce.
The fifth team was Ian & Andrew who made gyoza along with a delicious dumpling sauce. Next the “Los Tres Amigos” made empanadas. They made two different types, one with chicken filling, and another one with a short rib filling.
The “Dumpling Dynasty” is the next group and they also made gyoza. The eighth team is “The Empanadas,” and they made delicious cheese and spinach empanadas. The ninth team was the “Samosa Squad,” and they made samosas which are an indian pastry with a potato filling.
A member of this team, Arianna Sood, loved the competition and said,”Although we didn’t win I had so much fun and hope that Dumplingfest continues to happen.” The final team was “The Ladies”, who made pigs in a blanket.
Along with everyone getting to try so many new foods, Dumplingfest was also a competition with multiple winners. The first team that won was the “Dumpling Dynasty,” winning the Best Poster Award. The next team to win was The Ladies and they won the Best Presentation award. The final team that won, won the best overall dish and this was The Tres Amigos who made empanadas.
Senior Emily Kiernan said, ”Although I was in the competition, I did not vote for myself. I voted for The Tres Amigos because they were so good.”
Overall, Dumplingfest was a huge success, and I hope it continues!
