The Harvard Crimson hockey team had a rough year last year. They had a winning percentage of .312. Even with the not-so-great season, they saw some impressive performances, including a win vs Cornell, who was ranked 7th in the nation then. Luckily for Harvard, they brought in a strong class of recruits who will hopefully help them next year as their roster is also very senior-loaded. They hope their senior captains Ian Moore, Jack Bar, and Zakary Karpa can help them have a more dominant season than last year while helping the incoming class improve. Looking ahead, the Crimson’s season looks remarkably similar to last season. They will play dominant teams like Boston College, Quinnipiac, and Boston University.
Boston University’s hockey program has been regarded as the most successful program. They produce top-tier talent every year like Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Zegras. Their opening game against Holy Cross was a mediocre win, but Riley Greene lit up the scoreboard by getting two goals in their 5-2 win. Another player who is playing well this season is goaltender Mathieu Caron. At this time, Caron is averaging 1.5 goals against him per game. The team hopes he can keep these stats up even though their competition has not been good yet.
Harvard vs Boston University will play this Saturday in an exciting matchup. These two rivals go back, as the first time they met was in 1922. Since then, they have played in 48 matchups in which Boston won 27 of the 48. Two of the 48 games resulted in ties, and Harvard has won 19 of the matchups. A sizeable number of their matchups have taken place during the Beanpot. The Beanpot is a hockey tournament that takes place every year. The four teams that play in the tournament are Harvard, Boston College, Northeastern, and Boston University. Every year, the tournament takes place at TD Garden and the format is two teams will play, and the winning team goes to the championship, which is a few weeks after the first round, while the losing team will play the other loser right before the championship game. Boston University fan, Ludon Jackson said, “I have high hopes they [Boston University] will win.” Harvard fan, Ryan Kennedy said this about their upcoming game, “I think Harvard will crush Boston.”
