The Boston Celtics have been doing very well this season, especially after the All Star break. Their record is 42-18, and they are second in the Eastern Conference. Many incredible wins have defined their season, and they have beaten many of the best teams in the league. They recently beat the New York Knicks by 13, which helped secure their number two spot. Only the Cavaliers stand in the way of the number one spot and the Celtics are just 7 games behind them.
Their success this season has been largely due to the incredibly well rounded roster, where every player on the team flourishes. Jayson Tatum has had an astounding season, averaging an impressive 27 points per game, 9 rebounds per game, and 6 assists per game. Jaylen Brown has also been displaying his talent with 22 points per game and 6 rebounds per game. This team does not just win because of the superstars though, the many players who are not all stars allow the team to win so often. Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday are forces on the court. Their immense talent on both sides of the court have allowed the team to be so incredibly successful. Even when Tatum and Brown play badly, these players allow the team to continue to flourish. Even though they do not get the same recognition, or have better stats, they are deciding factors in every game and are the main reasons for the championship last year as well as the great record this year. Not only that, but the incredible bench has allowed the team to continue to be good even while the starters are resting. Peyton Pritchard has had an impeccable season, averaging 14 points per game off of the bench. He is strongly in the conversation for sixth man of the year. Sam Hauser and Luke Kornett have also had very respectable seasons, helping to make sure the team continues to be well rested.
The success of the Celtics is also due to the great coaching. Coach Joe Mazulla has done an incredible job making this roster the best it could possibly be. He makes sure that every member of the roster is properly trained and ready for each game. His interesting tactics have taken the league by surprise and helped his team be successful. His 3-pointer based offense has also made teams struggle to defend the many shots being put up.
Many people at the high school have been feeling strongly about the Celtics this season. When speaking on his predictions for the season, Junior TJ Meade said, “I believe the Celtics have the best odds of winning the NBA championship, and will be the first team to repeat as champions this decade.” Students also have strong opinions on players and their impacts. In describing which player he likes most Junior, Troy Liebovici said, “Derrick White is my favorite player on the Celtics due to the major change he makes whenever he is on the court.”
The Celtics continue on their season with playoffs in the distant horizon. They hope to obtain the one seed, and it is not out of the question, with a good win streak it is definitely possible.
