This year’s Spring Break lasts from Good Friday (April 14th) until April 23rd. While some students are heading out to tropical islands, hiking expeditions, and far off countries with passports in-hand, others are staying behind in Hingham to enjoy freedom from school in their own town.

Spring Break is popular for being an earned break following a long, vacation-less March. Thankfully, it is finally here. Earlier in the vacation, temperatures were at a record-high for 2017. Students were quick to head to the beach, walk in World’s End, or exercise at the High School. Hingham High’s crew team had practice every weekday over break, and lacrosse, track, and others had frequent practices as well.

Junior rower Sydney Boer stayed local this vacation because of Crew practice, enjoying the sunshine and being out on the water. She recounted, “It’s been enjoyable and jam-packed, but it still feels like school is breathing down the back of my neck”. This is the case for many Hingham High Schoolers. With school work lurking behind every corner, it is difficult to truly relax for one week and turn off a stress switch.

However, not all students feel pressure and stress. Sydney’s friend and fellow Junior, Justin Hull, has taken a different approach to Spring Break. He runs Spring track, has had practice this week, and is enjoying being outside.

He stated, “For me, Spring Break provides a period to de-stress and prepare for the upcoming AP exams. It also gives plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful weather, especially since it’s gotten warmer”. Justin has juggled with driving hours, AP prep for his two exams, and other academic stressors, but he is keeping his head up and looking forward to the rest of the year.

Hingham High Schoolers have three days left of vacation. Enjoy break while it’s still here!
