This week, the week of May 20-24, the Hingham girls varsity tennis team wrapped up their season. The girls tennis team has been working all year and succeeded in the majority of their matches right up until the end. Playing Duxbury on Tuesday May 21st and Silver Lake on Wednesday May 22nd, the tennis team ended their season this past week in great spirit.

The match on Tuesday, was a tough matchup on Duxbury’s brand-new home courts. Previously playing them at home and losing 2-3, this match was clearly going to be a close one. Battling the heat, the team pushed through and ended up winning the match. The match was still as close as last time, yet flipped the other way with Hingham winning 3-2. Despite the tough matches on singles courts one and three, overall, the team came out on top. Singles two won along with doubles one and two pulling through in a third set. Sam Ruddick, the first singles player for Hingham notes, “The girl I was playing was really good! I was not disappointed by my loss at all as I know I played my best. I’m instead ecstatic at the fact that my team as a whole pulled through.” This positive attitude was mirrored by all the girls on the team.

The match on Wednesday was against Silver Lake, once again away, and was the very last match of the season. This match was a clean sweep with Hingham tennis winning 5-0. Again, another very hot day was challenging to push through, but the team still came out on top. This win gave the team a final record of 15-1 in the Patriot League— the best record in the league right above Duxbury! Sophomore Hannah Mello states, “I am so happy my team was able to come out on top in the end, but more importantly we all had fun along the way.” In the end, although the last match can be a sad time, the team is excited to enter the tournament as Patriot League champions and see how far they get!
