On Tuesday, May 5th, Hingham Girls’s Varsity Tennis faced Silver Lake coming off a loss against NDA the day prior. The line-up for the match against Silver Lake consisted of Katie Kracunas in first singles, Emma Holmes in second singles, Reese Studebaker in third singles, Tessa Grossman and Mae Mahoney in first doubles, and Annabelle Dutra and Corinne Granoff in second doubles. Fortunately, the team did not let the loss from the day prior frazzle them and they were able to defeat Silver Lake on all six courts. This win accounted for the girls team’s 9th win in league and 10th win total.
Senior Tessa Grossman who played first doubles on Tuesday explained, “I was super pumped up going into this match. I knew we had lost the day prior but I tried to put it out of mind and just focus on the match at hand. Overall, I think me and Mae played really well together and I am glad we were able to win 6-0 6-1.”
With a senior heavy team, this match was great to watch as many underclassmen were playing. Senior Hannah Mello who was watching Tuesday exclaimed, “This was a super fun match to watch as not as many seniors were playing so we got to watch the underclassmen shine! I think all of them played amazing and I am so proud of how each of them have improved throughout the season.”
This season has been very successful for the girls so far as they have only lost two matches. With such a stellar record it can be easy to get caught up in the moment and lose focus. However, Senior Captain Sam Ruddick explains, “Silver Lake was a great match that showcased our team’s ability to keep focus no matter what. So far this season has been super successful and coming off a loss the day before can be hard. However, our team always just focuses on having fun, trying out best, and always putting in 100% effort so I was not worried at all about the outcome. I am super proud of how everyone played and I am excited to see where the rest of this season takes us!”
All in all, the Hingham Girls Varsity Tennis team is off to a great start and their win against Silver Lake was a great redemption from NDA. It will be exciting to see how they perform the rest of the season!
