Here at the high school, the Drama Club has officially cast and begun production of the popular 1984 musical, Footloose. Directed by Hingham drama teacher Maureen Fish, this show is definitely going to blow everyone away with its advanced choreography and painfully catchy songs.
The plot centers around a charismatic young man named Ren McCormack (played by Graeme Baker) who is forced to move from his hometown of Chicago, to the small Utah town of Bomont. In this town it is illegal to dance or play rock music after a tragic accident shook the town and caused Reverend Shaw Moore (played by Michael Blackwood) to get the town council to put a ban in place.
As the story goes along, Ren helps the people of Bomont bring dancing back to Bomont. With the help of the reverend’s daughter, Ariel Moore (played by Reese Warshaw), together they rebel against Ariel’s father and work together to help the town return to the way it once was.
While they spend more time together over this journey, Ren and Ariel slowly start to fall in love, much to the dismay of Ariel’s mean boyfriend, Chuck Cranston (played by Stanley Starsiak). Will Ren and Ariel finally be able to bring back the once music-loving man the Reverend was, or is dancing bound never to return to Bomont? Come see the show and find out!
“I’m really excited.”, exclaimed Michael Blackwood, actor for Reverend Shaw Moore, when I asked about the show, “I’ve always known about Footloose, but never had a full understanding of it. So far it’s been turning out great!” Zoya Lee, the stage manager, offered: “I think we have a really awesome cast”, when asked about the show. She also explained, “This show has really fun dances; whenever I watch them I can’t help but also just get caught up in the fun.” One of the things they both said was “Come see the show!”
Footloose is a once in a lifetime experience for laughs, fun dances, and a loveable cast of characters, with a story that teaches everyone just how powerful music and dance can be. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for when tickets are on sale– they sell out quickly, so don’t hesitate to get them fast! Everyone here at HHS are all so excited for this performance!
