On Friday December 5th and Sunday December 7th Hingham High School’s chorus program hosted the annual Major Works Concert. The theme this year was “Sacred and Secular” due to the incorporation of both religious songs and well known holiday songs. The Women’s Ensemble sang “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl with solos from Hallie Nowicki, Abby Warren and Cate Grosskopf; “Lift Thine Eyes” by Felix Mendelssohn; and “Psalm 23” by Franz Schubert. The Chamber Chorus sang “Bright, Bright the Holly Berries” by Alfred Burt and “Dixit Maria” by Hans Leo Hassler. Choral Spectrum sang “Softly, Little Child” and “Lullaby” by Daniel E. Gawthrop. The Concert Chorale sang “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella” with the traditional arrangement by Robert Shaw and “The Sledge Bells” by Hugh S. Robert with lyrics from the poem by Edgar Allen Poe. The Men’s Chorus sang classics like “Santa Clause is Coming to Town” as sung by Bruce Springsteen and “Happy X-mass (War is Over)” by John Lennon. After a brief intermission the combined choirs sang “Hear My Prayer” by Moses Hogan and “Mass No.2 in G Major” by Franz Schubert.
