April break is one of those times of year, separate from summer, where the weather seems to align with desires, and the workload isn’t too stressful. Luckily, the area in which we live, Hingham, is especially unique in the sense that it has a wide variety of activities and opportunities in which to take part. If you’re looking for ways to make this vacation special and enjoyable, don’t look too far as this article will explore various places to visit, and what to do at those locations.
To begin, a well-known, yet very enjoyable place to visit is the Hingham Derby Street shops. Not only is this very local to those who live in Hingham, but it is also one of the most versatile places to go to during break. Pedro Muzel Damin agrees by saying, “Every time I go to Derby, I never get bored, and I always find new stores to explore, and new food to eat, although Chipotle is my favorite.”
One of my personal favorite food places to visit in Derby is either Chipotle or Cava, but there are countless others to choose from, like Burtons Grill, which offers an array of food that is a little more pricey; Shake Shack, which is known for its burgers and milkshakes, and Bar Taco, which has delicious street-style tacos.
Next, another destination to think about is World’s End in Hingham. This nature-filled park is on the peninsula of Hingham Harbor, which means it features countless views of the water and scenic paths that help decompress one’s mind.
Since the time leading up to April break is the longest period of time between vacations, decompressing and enjoying nature is exactly what school faculty and students need after working industriously for a long period of time.
Supportingly, after asking Graham Frank, sophomore class president, about his thoughts on why April break was needed, he said, “I think the timing of this vacation is perfect because I was starting to get burnt out on school work, and wasn’t paying attention as much as I should. So after the break, I think I will be refreshed and ready to continue learning.”
Similar to enjoying scenic routes and wildlife in World’s End, another fun activity to do is taking the ferry into Boston. Not only will it give a nice change in scenery, but it will make transportation easier as you can avoid the often-horrendous I-93 traffic. Upon arriving in Boston, there is a near-unlimited number of activities to take part in, but one that is especially unique is visiting the aquarium by yourself, or with friends and family.
Last but not least, a great change of speed from fast-paced work and schoolwork is to just visit the Hingham Public Library and borrow a book. There are many studies on reading and its benefits, but society today has often overlooked this simple yet impactful strategy to learn, develop, and destress.
However you spend April break, make sure to make it a lasting memory that will be special and won’t be forgotten.
