This past Tuesday, December 23rd, Hingham High School hosted its winter pep rally for students! The event is a great way to end off school before break, and with several fun activities, students often look forward to it.
This year, seniors Meghan Koenan and Henry Sellers acted as the emcees of the event. Meghan Koenon, as the PubCo of Student Council, also helped to plan the event along with other board members: Ella O’Neill, Sydney Bowyer, Katie Whitlock, Abby Mercer, Kaylie Fabrizio, and Sammy Price.
Ella O’Neill, the president of Student Council, commented on the planning of the pep rally by stating, “We all had so much fun planning the pep rally this year! It was a great way to boost school spirit before break and we feel it all went smoothly this year.”
The pep rally began with a warm welcome from Hingham’s band. Following this performance, the winter sports captains walked out. There was a special pause for the gymnastics team as they unveiled their Patriot League champions banner! Next, the boys and girls basketball captains, along with the unified players, were invited out to play in a game of knockout! After, the Smash Bros and Serve Squad played the championship ping pong game to seven points. In this game, the Smash Bros came out on top. Following the match was a game of human hungry hippos. For this, tennis and doge balls were placed in the middle of the gym, and teams had to wheel one member on a scooter to collect the balls with a box.
Senior Kaitlyn Manning participated in this hungry hippos game and commented, “The game was super fun! It was so funny to wheel my teammate to collect the balls, and overall it was a great time!”
Nearing the end of the pep rally, the emcees nominated students and teachers to attempt a half court basketball shot. Although many got close, the only person to successfully make the shot was senior Sean Carrol!
Overall, it is safe to say that the winter pep rally was a success at boosting school spirit and prepping students for break. It will be exciting to see how the fall and winter pep rallies go next year!
