Hingham Lacrosse is a program filled with pride and success that has lasted decades on the South Shore of Massachusetts. The program’s long line of success has been a product of wisdom and tradition brought by head coach John Todd.
Coach Todd, mainly referred to as JT, has been leading the Hingham Lacrosse program since he joined the staff in 1989 just after graduating from St. Michael’s in Vermont. Todd, who quickly picked up the sport during his college tenure, has given every ounce of his love into the Hingham program since his early days coaching. Todd’s love and dedication to the Hingham Lacrosse program has only produced continuous success.
Along Todd’s journey, he has won over 500 games as a head coach, hoisted three state champion trophies, and sent numerous players to compete at high levels collegiately. Hingham lacrosse, being one of the first programs developed in Massachusetts, has a long line of success from its starting point in the late 1970s. With four state championships and countless playoff runs, success is the standard set on every team that takes the field in red and white each year.
The story is no different for the boys of the 2025 lacrosse team, as they plan to continue a long tradition of success. It becomes instantly apparent that obtaining success is an understatement when talking to some of the leaders of the program. Senior captain Owen Packard mentioned, “the goal, like every year, is to win a state championship. We are all lucky to play in a program that competes on an annual basis, and we look forward to representing the town.”
With such high standards for each season, oftentimes it can make the losses seem far more painful. The Harbormen of Hingham made their way to their fourth semi-final appearance last spring, and unfortunately suffered a loss to the Longmeadow Lancers. Senior captain and UMASS Lowell commit Patrick Browne commented on this loss last year saying, “the loss to Longmeadow last year was a tough one, but it only motivates us to get over the hump and past the semi-final round, where we can look to ending the season with a state championship.”
The 2025 Hingham Lacrosse season is just at its starting point, but there is no doubt that the program has its eyes set for the long run. The boys first kick off their regular season play at Needham on April 3rd, and look to stack wins as the season progresses. The decorated history of the program may continue to grow with yet another season building this spring, with the hopes of adding another state championship to the town.
