Olivia Rodrigo kicked off her Unraveled Tour in late September and this week, she will make three appearances at TD Garden in Boston. The tour which includes songs from her third and most recent album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love began on September 25th in Hartford, Connecticut and local fans from Massachusetts have been eagerly waiting to see her live on October 15th, 17th, and 18th.
Olivia Rodrigo, a young 23 year old artist started singing at the age of 4 and released her first song titled “Drivers License” on January 8, 2021, at age 17. This song began Olivia’s successful career as a singer. The popularity of “Driver Licence” and the Sour album which followed led to the release of her second album Guts and now her most recent album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love marks her third.
It has been a huge success, selling over 273,000 albums in the first week alone. This is more than any of her other albums have sold within one week of release. Louise Mahoney, a freshman at Hingham High School states that, “[her] favorite album is You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl so in Love and [she] enjoys listening to Olivia Rodrigo’s newer music.”
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl so in Love differs from the first two in that her initial punk-rock style songs have evolved into slower pop songs. As Olivia Rodrigo was finishing the album she went through a breakup with famous actor Luis Partridge.
On the New York Times Popcast, she stated that after she made the album, she and her producer, “tweaked some of the love songs on the record… making them a little more honest and more sad and more creepy.” Freshman Reagan Neville, attending the Unraveled Tour on Saturday remarks, “I can definitely hear the difference between Olivia Rodrigo’s old music and her new music, and I like her new music more.” Her shift in dynamic grasped a huge audience and fans are determined to get tickets to the Unraveled Tour.
On the nights of Olivia Rodrigo’s concert, TD Garden will be filled with pink, the color that defines her latest album. In Boston alone, Olivia Rodrigo’s concert is sparking an audience of just under 20,000 people per night. She sold out 86 different arenas with this concert throughout regions of North America and Europe.
