After 15 years of serving the Hingham community, a beloved burger chain and local hangout, Wahlburgers, announced the closing of its flagship location at the Hingham Shipyard. On September 29th, an Instagram post from the restaurant account’s page stated, “Thank you for the memories.”
The family-run restaurant chain, located at 19 Shipyard Drive, announced its lease would expire on September 30, 2026. Wahlburgers opened its first restaurant at the Hingham Shipyard in September 2011. Dorchester native and chef Paul Wahlberg opened the restaurant with his brothers, actor Mark Wahlberg and New Kids on the Block singer Donnie Wahlberg.
After opening its first restaurant, the management team quickly expanded, launching restaurants throughout the United States with multiple locations in Massachusetts including Boston’s Fenway neighborhood. There are also locations as distant as New Zealand, Australia and Canada. The restaurant soared in popularity beyond Hingham thanks in part to a reality TV show called “Wahlburgers” that ran on the A&E network in 2014.
Some of Wahlburgers’ most popular menu items include “The Our Burger”, a classic burger with American cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and its signature “Wahl Sauce”. Truffle fries, tater tots and specialty milkshakes were other favorites of the Hingham community.
The tater tots at Wahlburgers were one of Hingham High School senior Abbey George’s favorite menu items. “Walhburgers was one of my favorite places to eat at the Shipyard, said Abbey. “I’m going to miss going there with my friends.”
Piper Perchard, a freshman at Hingham High School, echoed Abbey’s sentiment. “When I found out about Wahlburgers closing, I was very upset,” said Piper. “I loved going there over the summer and I will miss it.”
While the Hingham location has closed, town residents can still enjoy Wahlburgers when flying out of Boston’s Logan Airport as the restaurant has two locations…one at Terminal C and one at Terminal E.
While many in the Hingham community are sad to see the restaurant close its doors, the feeling is mutual from the team at Wahlburgers who published this message on Instagram, “As the original Wahlburgers location, Hingham will always hold a special place in our story.”
