It’s difficult to pinpoint the success of Hingham High Schools’ Athletics program on one team alone. Instead, a number of talented individuals across a variety of different teams has led to early success for Hingham High School athletics. The first week and a half of the fall season started off strong with large crowds, as well as many teams holding winning records.
Field Hockey: 5-0
The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team are coming off an impressive 2023 season, where they made the D2 Final Four for the first time in program history. As of right now, their record is 5-0 with wins against Plymouth North, Falmouth, Silver Lake, and Whitman Hanson. When asked about their team success, junior Gabi Magner says, “We work really hard in practice, but also like to joke around. Although some players really stand out on our team, it’s a full team effort and will continue to be throughout the season.”
Boys Soccer: 3-0
Boys Varsity Soccer has also started their season with a competitive, aggressive, and talented roster. With a 3-0 record, they have wins against North Quincy, Marshfield, and Scituate. Senior JD Lucas says that “The environment on the team this year has been electric. I’m really looking forward to a strong season this year.” With new additions to their lineup, fans can expect this team to bring the energy to every game.
Girls Soccer: 1-1-1
Hingham High’s Girls Varsity Soccer has always had an especially talented roster leading to overall success in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, last year, key players Ava Varholak and Claire Murray left for Division 1 colleges. Nonetheless, under new Head Coach April Tremante, the team’s focus towards fitness and playing with determination has motivated the girls. With a win over Marshfield, a draw with Scituate, and a loss to North Quincy, the team definitely has the talent and drive it takes to dominate this fall.
Football: 1-1
The Varsity Football team came off a strong week one after a huge 42-6 win over Merrimack. The team, led by junior quarterback Jake Varholak has also added new additions to both their offense and defense. Unfortunately, the team fell short on Friday, September 13th against a strong Hanover team. With a 1-1 record so far, players look to use this week’s loss as fuel for the next coming weeks.
Volleyball: 2-1
Hingham’s Girls Volleyball has also started their season on a strong note. With a deep roster and great communication skills, fans of volleyball should mark their calendars for this team’s upcoming games this fall. Girls Varsity Volleyball looks to improve their 2-1 record in the next couple of weeks after wins over Cohasset and Marshfield and a loss to North Quincy.
