On Thursday, April 30th, the Hingham Arts Program hosted its annual all school Art-Show at Hingham High Schools. Here, the best work, across mediums, from artists in grades kindergarten through 12th grade was showcased. There was a steady stream of parents, students, teachers, and members of the larger community all night.
Madeleine Sweeney, a sophomore at HHS commented on her experience at the show, stating “I loved getting to see all my friends’ artwork. And it was even more interesting to see pieces from classmates of mine who I did not even know had such artistic talent.”
What makes this art show so special, even more special than most, is the progression that can be seen across the ages. Getting to see the kindergartener’s imaginative paintings to then the advanced high schoolers detailed sketches and paintings is an amazing transformation.

Additionally, Thursday’s event was a bridge across the art world itself, including performances by both the Hingham High School Chamber Winds and Orchestra groups.

Getting all these layers of student art under one roof, all to be enjoyed together was such a special moment for the Hingham High School Community and beyond. This unity and the great talent seen in all the work showcased at the Art Show reminds us just how important the arts are for our school community.
Co-President of the art club, and clarinet for the high school band, Vivianne Kust commented on the greatness of this convergence: “As both a musician and a visual artist, it was especially meaningful to support my peers at this celebration of our creative community. It felt like a full-circle moment to witness the joy of the younger student artists, reminding me of when I first attended this event in elementary school and was inspired to continue pursuing the arts.”

Yes, Hingham has wonderful sports teams and a great academic reputation, but beyond that Hingham Public Schools has hundreds of talented artists who deserve to be honored just as equally, and Thursday evening’s Art Show did just that.
