This year, New York Fashion Week (NYFW) was held on September 8th through 13th. Top designers, influencers, and celebrities gathered in the Big Apple to showcase their latest collections, offering a glimpse into the trends that will dominate the zeitgeist. Even here in Hingham, you can expect the runways of New York to influence what we’ll see in stores, on social media, and in the hallways.
Designers this year focussed on the balance of comfort and statement which has been seen in previous years alike. From oversized knits to bold, structured silhouettes many collections nodded to sustainability — in contrast to fast fashion such as Shein, Temu, and now even TikTok shops. The designers worked towards positive environmental awareness in the making of their pieces. The colors that painted the runway range from rich autumnal colors such as burgundy and mustard yellow to vibrant pops of neon. Layering pieces also remain prevalent, especially for New England regions. Long trench coats were seen paired with cropped sweaters, plaid skirts over trousers, and an emphasis on chunky footwear. As temperatures cool here, these styles will naturally surge into everyday wear, blending the avant-garde with the functional suit of our New England weather. Junior Tommy Hartnett says, “[his] favorite style to wear has to be layered clothing due to its comfortable nature!”
Oversized clothing will continue to fill the hallways whether it’s in puffer jackets, quilted coats, or slouchy cardigans. Cozy yet stylish layers will be essential this fall. Senior Ivy Clark says, “I’ve really been loving replacing sweatshirts with a cute sweater lately.” Baggy jeans and cargo pants, which have been rising in popularity, aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. The “effortless chic” look will remain strong, with laid-back but put-together outfits taking center stage.
My favorite thing about this season is all the mixing and matching. You can be a designer every morning in your life by pulling from trending clothing while putting your spin on it to express yourself through your style! Whether you are following every step of NYFW or simply want to refresh your style, this season promises something exciting for everyone.
