Ms. Petrie, an AP US History and Psychology teacher, reached her 250th career win as the head coach of the field hockey team on Saturday, October 17. Coach Petrie is one of only a few field hockey coaches in Massachusetts to reach this outstanding milestone. Junior Maggie Towle noted, “Coach Petrie is so helpful and energetic. She always has a way to get our team’s energy up and can always pinpoint the exact correction we need to be successful! She is a great teacher and coach, and I am so excited that she won her 250th career game at this year’s homecoming game!” Throughout Coach Petrie’s 21 season career as head coach, she has taken her team on numerous playoff runs, making the state championship recently in the 2025 season, and the final four in both 2023 and 2024.
In an interview with Coach Petrie, I asked what it had taken her to reach the 250 wins. She responded by saying, “I am very lucky that every year I am surrounded by amazing athletes who want to do well but also want to have fun, which is very important to us. I also have an incredible coaching staff, and we work really well together.” This season alone, the team has totaled 12 wins with only 2 losses and one tie, as well as securing the title of Patriot League Champions on Friday the 23, in their 9-0 win against Silver-Lake.
When asked how she celebrated her 250th win, Coach Petrie admitted, “I actually didn’t tell the team until late in the game because I am superstitious, but it felt great. For me, it was more about the team winning though. I feel so lucky to have been able to celebrate with the team. Having it be during homecoming was really cool too!” Coach Petrie also mentioned, “I heard from some of my old players who reached out to congratulate me.”
Junior Libby Baxter remarked, “Coach Petrie’s 250th win is such a testament to her extreme dedication to the field hockey program, She has really put so much effort into making us all better and it shows through our success.” As for the future and any milestones that she would want to achieve next, Coach Petrie stated, “I tend to focus on one game at a time and want to have fun with each game. I hope to keep racking up wins and can’t wait to spend more time with the girls.” As the regular season winds down, the Hingham High School field hockey team prepares for another strong playoff performance.
