For many people, getting the opportunity to watch a basketball game at TD Garden in Boston is an extremely special and memorable experience. But, for the Hingham Girls Varsity basketball team, playing at TD Garden to help support the Andrew James Lawson Foundation, on the same court as the NBA Champion Boston Celtics, was a tremendous honor and opportunity that they will never forget. After spending the snowy Saturday in Boston, they pulled out a win against the Pirates of Hull, 51-18, making it apparent that this is an incredibly talented team.
To support the team, and partake in this once in a lifetime opportunity, many Hinghamites drove to Boston to support the girls, making them feel very welcome. Also, the opportunity gave the girls a great chance to work on team bonding and get to know each other deeper. When asked about her experience, sophomore Elizabeth Murray said, “Saturday was a wonderful experience for the team, and I feel like our team chemistry really grew. Everyone was so happy and the whole stadium was cheering for us. We have a really talented team, and I am hoping this continues into the rest of the season.”
When Sophia McDougall, a junior on varsity, was asked about the game and how her overall experience has been, she said, “As a team we have consistently put time and effort into all aspects of the game whether it is on or off the court. I think that the game was a great opportunity for us to not only showcase all the time and effort we have put in as individual players but as a team. It made me remember that all the hard work we have put in has helped us have fun moments like playing at the Garden.”
This past week alone, the girls went 3-1, defeating Scituate, Plymouth North, and Hull, but falling to Hanover on Friday night. Despite the setback, the team is hopeful and determined to keep it up this upcoming week, with an away game against Silver Lake this Tuesday, and another one on Friday against Duxbury at home.
